Getting to the Festival

When booking your flights to travel to the SFIAAFF, you can fly into either San Francisco or Oakland. You can often find cheaper flights into Oakland. (The San Jose airport is about an hour away by car - with no traffic - from downtown San Francisco.)

GETTING TO AND FROM THE AIRPORTS

San Francisco International Airport

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

  • A taxi ride from SFO to downtown costs about $30. Metered rates apply to all destinations. Taxi drivers are required by airport regulation to accept fares to all Bay Area destinations.
  • Airport shuttles are inexpensive and efficient. The SFO Airporter ($12) picks up passengers at baggage claim (lower level) and serves selected downtown hotels. SuperShuttle ($12 to $15 depending on your destination) stops at the upper-level traffic islands and takes you to anywhere within the San Francisco city limits. Inexpensive shuttles to the East Bay (among them Bayporter Express) also depart from SFO’s upper-level traffic islands; expect to pay around $20.
  • BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) - Once you arrive at SFO, take the Red AirTrain line from your domestic flight to BART. Or, walk to BART, following the signs to the International terminal. If your ultimate destination is San Francisco or the East Bay, take a Richmond or Pittsburgh Baypoint-bound BART train. The fare to San Francisco is $4.95. BART has a stop at Union Square (Powell St. Station). If you want to travel to San Jose or the South Bay, take a Millbrae-bound BART train from SFO to the Millbrae Station (a five-minute ride) and transfer there to CalTrain or connecting bus service for the trip south. DRIVING

To drive to downtown San Francisco from the airport, take U.S. 101 north to the Civic Center (9th Street), 7th Street, or 4th Street exits. If you’re headed to the Embarcadero or Fisherman’s Wharf, take I-280 north (the exit is to the right, just past 3Com Park) and get off at the 4th Street/King Street exit. King Street becomes the Embarcadero a few blocks east of the exit. The Embarcadero winds around the waterfront to Fisherman’s Wharf.
