Student Delegates
Annie Tung
An only child, Annie is an independent and thoughtful thinker who enjoys munching on pb&j sandwiches and hearing life stories of people who are willing to tell them; she lives vicariously through their stories. When there are no stories to tell, she is pleasantly consumed in good music (the quotable kind), student orgs, and adventures on the 51. One day, Annie will travel all over the world in pursuit of the world’s treasures. But for now she is content to be at Cal.
Clay Ngo
In the spring, Clay Ngo will graduate from SFSU in Film and Chinese studies. He is mostly petrified to enter the “real world”, but alas, he must learn to stop gnawing at his mother’s nipples for survival. He realizes the little clout Asian Americans hold in the U.S. entertainment industry, which further propels him to make films to educate, empower and give identity to the Asian American community. Clay lives in SF with his imaginary husband, and their dog, 林瑞丝
Corey Schultz
I began my program intending to study contemporary Chinese art but a chance run-in with a Chinese film festival quickly converted me. My area of research is identity and modernity as imaged in contemporary Chinese film. In the future, I hope to find out what that actually means. I am a graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley.
Jason Keola Low
Jason Keola Low: autodidact, despite having attended several four-year universities (though to his credit he claims to have only graduated from one). Interests–past, present, and future: the films of the French New Wave, the music and soothing spirituality of Nirvana, and the company of three Abyssinian cats. Aspirations: 9-5 job with health benefits, becoming the Roberto Bolaño of film, or life. He lives in San Diego in spite of the sunshine. Jason Keola Low is a senior at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Janice Lobo Sapigao
Janice Lobo Sapigao is a Pinay writer, poet, playwright, and all-around arts enthusiast. She graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a B.A. in Ethnic Studies and a minor in Urban Studies & Planning. After interning in Washington, D.C., Janice is currently interning with New Village Press in Oakland, CA and living in San Jose, CA. She enjoys stuffed animals, reading, blogging, telling stories about her mom, and watching reality television.
Lisa Ly
Lisa Ly is an undergraduate senior at Colorado College, double majoring in International Political Economy and Asian Studies. She is currently writing her thesis on Chinese American hybrid identity as portrayed through film. Yeah–everything mentioned about Lisa thus far may sound completely random and may not seem to have a logical connection–we call it “liberal arts.” Lisa is thrilled to be a part of the SFIAAFF Student Delegate Program.
Vinky Ip
Besides having a bizarre name, I have been watching movies ever since I was a fetus in my mommy’s tummy. I was born and raised in California, but the time I have spent in Hong Kong inspired me to work toward a film career. In my free time, I love taking pictures and nibbling on frozen corn. If you see me around the festival don’t be afraid to say hi and take a picture with me! Vinky Ip is a sophomore at De Anza Community College.
Young-Bin Kwon
Young-Bin Kwon is a Korean and has become an Asian after he moved to San Francisco as an international student in the summer of 2007. After demonstrating during his first year that even an Asian could get straight F’s, he is now taking various classes at City College of San Francisco in order to learn more about documentary film and social issues. He is interning at Link TV, and is also a research assistant for an independent documentary. He has directed three short films, a short documentary and written an experimental play.
